There's no doubt that Google has been executing plans to enter the cell phone industry as a major player. This has been in the works for years now and is still far from complete. Articles are sprouting up all over the internet about Google phone prototypes and rumors of Google's construction of massive data centers. It seems as if Google has a master plan for everything.
Computer world recently published an article titled Google shows phone prototype to vendors. Here's what a Google rep had to say about their plans.
"We're partnering with carriers, manufacturers and content providers around the world to bring Google search and Google applications to mobile users everywhere," Google spokesman Michael Kirkland said in an e-mail statement.
"What our users and partners are telling us is that they want Google search and Google applications on mobile, and we are working hard every day to deliver that," Kirkland said.
The most exciting part of this whole thing is the possibility of Google offering the mobile phone plan for free. Some are saying that Google has the ability to generate the revenue by serving customers ads on their mobile phones. Since some mobile phone providers can offer a limited monthly service for $20.00 per month, a free mobile phone service from Google seems very realistic to me.
